The decay K+→π+νν¯ , with a very precisely predicted branching ratio of less than 10−10 , is among the best processes to reveal indirect effects of new physics. The NA62 experiment at CERN SPS is designed to study the K+→π+νν¯ decay and to measure its branching ratio using a decay-in-flight technique. NA62 took data in 2016, 2017 and 2018, reaching the sensitivity of the Standard Model for the K+→π+νν¯ decay by the analysis of the 2016 and 2017 data, and providing the most precise measurement of the branching ratio to date by the analysis of the 2018 data. This measurement is also used to set limits on BR(K+→π+X ), where X is a scalar or pseudo-scalar particle. The final result of the BR(K+→π+νν¯ ) measurement and its interpretation in terms of the K+→π+X decay from the analysis of the full 2016-2018 data set is presented, and future plans and prospects are reviewed

The composition of spent detergent solutions of the repair shop of special agricultural machinery, which is based on the use of synthetic detergents, was studied. The technological scheme of oil preparation on the basis of the spent detergent solutions, water-oil emulsions and oil containing slimes was developed. The obtained oil was used for lubrication of the forms of reinforced concrete structures

Rapid unpredicted changes in the stratification of marine lake Mogilnoe (Kildin Island, the Barents Sea) through the early 21st century

Lake Mogilnoe is a rare example of an anchialine lake (with subterranean connection to the ocean) in the Arctic, a refuge for landlocked populations of marine organisms. The lake has been the subject of intensive studies since the end of the 19th century. Here we demonstrate that between the 2003–07 and 2015–18 observation periods this permanently stratified lake experienced significant changes. The surface salinity increased and exceeded the tolerance limits of many freshwater organisms. The bottom anoxia expanded from one-fifth to one-third of the lake volume. Such a turn in stratification affected both composition and distribution of biota: freshwater zooplanktonic species virtually disappeared, while benthic communities shifted to shallower depths. Although recent changes in the lake stratification are consistent with the long-term trend, their scale is much larger than has been observed during the past 120 years. It was earlier considered that the lake dynamics were mainly affected by human activity in the vicinity of the lake. However, lack of human activity around Mogilnoe during last decades persuades us to search for the natural causes of the recorded changes

The Study of CSC Strip Readout Electronics Operation at High Background Rates

    No full text
The influence of the background rate on the operation of cathode strip chamber ( CSC) readout electronics has been studied. The investigation has been performed with two different cathode readout electronics: 16-channels preamplifier-shapers based on GASPLEX and Minsk ASIC "Katod-1". The first one have been tested with 4-layer 0.5´0.5 m2 CSC. One layer has been irradiated by X-ray tube ( Eg=8KeV) while the others - used for cosmic muon track coordinate reconstruction. Electronics based on Minsk ASIC have been tested with P3 prototype of ME1/1 CSC in pion beam at H2 experimental area. For both electronics the background contribution to the registered events as a function of the background rate are presented

Search for heavy neutrinos in K+μ+νμK^+ \rightarrow \mu^+ \nu_{\mu} decays

International audienceThe NA62 experiment recorded a large sample of K+→μ+νμ decays in 2007. A peak search has been performed in the reconstructed missing mass spectrum. In the absence of a signal, limits in the range 2×10−6 to 10−5 have been set on the squared mixing matrix element |Uμ4|2 between muon and heavy neutrino states, for heavy neutrino masses in the range 300–375 MeV/ c2 . The result extends the range of masses for which upper limits have been set on the value of |Uμ4|2 in previous production search experiments

Search for heavy neutral lepton production in K+K^+ decays

A search for heavy neutral lepton production in K+K^+ decays using a data sample collected with a minimum bias trigger by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2015 is reported. Upper limits at the 10710^{-7} to 10610^{-6} level are established on the elements of the extended neutrino mixing matrix U42|U_{\ell 4}|^2 (=e,μ\ell=e,\mu) for heavy neutral lepton mass in the range 170448 MeV/c2170-448~{\rm MeV}/c^2. This improves on the results from previous production searches in K+K^+ decays, setting more stringent limits and extending the mass range.A search for heavy neutral lepton production in K+ decays using a data sample collected with a minimum bias trigger by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2015 is reported. Upper limits at the 10−7 to 10−6 level are established on the elements of the extended neutrino mixing matrix |Ue4|2 and |Uμ4|2 for heavy neutral lepton mass in the ranges 170–448 MeV/ c2 and 250–373 MeV/ c2 , respectively. This improves on the previous limits from HNL production searches over the whole mass range considered for |Ue4|2 , and above 300 MeV/ c2 for |Uμ4|2

International audienceThe NA62 experiment at the CERN SPS reports the first search for K+→π+νν¯ using the decay-in-flight technique, based on a sample of 1.21×1011 K+ decays collected in 2016. The single event sensitivity is 3.15×10−10 , corresponding to 0.267 Standard Model events. One signal candidate is observed while the expected background is 0.152 events. This leads to an upper limit of 14×10−10 on the K+→π+νν¯ branching ratio at 95% CL

    A search for the K+μνe+e+K^+\to\mu^-\nu e^+e^+ decay

A search for the K+μνe+e+K^+\to\mu^-\nu e^+e^+ decay, forbidden within the Standard Model by either lepton number or lepton flavour conservation depending on the flavour of the emitted neutrino, has been performed using the dataset collected by the NA62 experiment at CERN in 2016--2018. An upper limit of 8.1×10118.1\times 10^{-11} is obtained for the decay branching fraction at 90% CL, improving by a factor of 250 over the previous search
